Oprah Subpoenaed in Alleged Profiling Case

Oprah Winfrey, Condi Rice, and Colin Powell are among a host of A-list celebs who were just subpoenaed in a racial profiling case in a Michigan Federal Court.

TMZ obtained court documents filed yesterday, which "commands" that a spectacular list of celebrities appear for depositions in a lawsuit filed by one Jerome Almon, who alleges that Canada has launched an attack on U.S. black rappers. The lawsuit claims Canadaian officals blame rappers for both increased gangs and gun violence in Toronto and Vancouver, and holds up black rappers at the border.

The list goes on to include Paris Hilton, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Snoop Dogg, DMX, Diddy, Jenna Jameson, Jay Z, 50 Cent, Eminem, Kobe Bryant, Spike Lee, Tom Sizemore, Martha Stewart and Heidi Fleiss. Mr. Almon, CEO of MurderCap Records, tells TMZ, "The white celebrities have been directed to appear, in order to show the hypocritical nature of Canadian policy toward rappers. Some of the white celebrities have far worse records than these rappers, but are still allowed to enter Canada with the red carpet rolled out."

Trip to Motor City ... everybody!

151. "It’s their country. They should be able to allow whomever they want into their country. "

It's what the evil socialist government want, the bureaucracy want, the nationalist staff want, NOT what people want. Canadian common people have no say to what they want because their socialist nationalist government don't give them free speech.

Americans should help Canadian on a journey of fighting for free speech, equality and getting rid of racism. I really hope you can help Canadian do that by pursing this lawsuit. All you need is to speak up for people.

153. If Canadian can just stop hiding problems to save face, if they dare to deal with their social problems and try to figure out how to change things, it will be a better country and their future generations won't have to come to the States to find opportunities and better life. They might not even have to come down here for shopping better deals. It's ridiculous Canadian' wages are lower than American's but they pay more to buy goods. So many of them even cross the border just for shopping. It's pathetic how socialist government treat their people, even price scout basic stuff like daily necessity and clothing.

There are a lot of Canadian in America, there's very few Americans living in Canada. The numbers tell all.

154. Oprah, subpoenaed... the rapper's take up for her... although they acknowledge she has never had one on her show, wonder why ? Some sort of double standard here? Or is the real reason is that she thinks she is above such entertainers ? Do you really think we'll see her in a courtroom? ? ?

155. We smoke more pot than any other country and hell with the right gov't it's legal sometimes! If we were anymore mellow we'd be in a coma, lol. And as far as trouble at the border it happens to everybody since 9/11. There is a 3 hour wait at every border crossing because the USA doesn't want their sheep entering or leaving. Trust me I know. I can see the michigan/ontario border from my house. They've had to install port a potties on the Canadian side because of the long delays getting into the states. Back in the day when the USA dollar was beating the crap out of the CND dollar USA citizens bought houses over here so they have to drive back and forth over the boarder everyday. Georgie boy wants it made as difficult as possible to get into the USA.

156. #152

You need to stop going to the Church of CNN and research Canada for yourself. Everything you said is totally false. We have a great country here, you should come up for a visit sometime before you start bad mouthing us. I bet you've never even been here. I've travelled all over the states, north to south. Been to Cuba many times too and Mexico. We are all on this continent together, neighbours. And just because you don't like our universal health care and the fact that the world loves us and doesn't fly planes into our buildings doesn't give you the right to repeat gossip you heard from Bob O. Seriously you sound very uninformed! Remember 9/11 and all the airplanes refused entry into USA airspace? Remember what country took those stranded travellers? Who were the first people to aid in the victims of Hurricane Katrina, that's right Canada. Even before Georgie aided his own people Canada was there. We aren't so bad. We do a lot and don't tell anybody. We don't brag. We just do the right thing then go smoke a joint and relax. You should try it sometime, you sound kinda high strung. Oprah was in Vancouver for the summer.

157. Canada is only implementing the new immigration rules and policies that the American Govt./George Bush has been pushing since 9/11. This situation has nothing to do with racial profiling, has nothing to do with rap music, it is entirely about the criminal record of the person trying to enter Canada. As far as the passport requirement somebody brougth up, it's George Bush who created that requirement, not Canada - check the notes on the North American Summit that just took place in Canada, PM Harper was trying to convince Bush to change the passport policy.

158. There's an element of the population that BUYS these rapper's CD's and makes them millionaires for being hateful. Stop supporting them. The solution is simple: don't buy their goods. I say good for Canada. Somebody has to take a stand. Oprah won't have them on her show! Good for Oprah. How much hate and destruction have to take place before we as Americans say 'enough'?

The ONLY CANADIANS living and moving to the States are the ones who do so for MORE MONEY. Health Professional are being recruited up here by US Hospital ALL the time. Our Artisits as well, move to the States, broaden the Market, Celine Dion, David Foster, Bryan Adams, Pam Anderson, Jim Carrey, John Belushi, Dan ackroyd, Paul Shaffer, Mike Myers, to name a few...I don't beleive these People or our highly trained Medical Professionals are HURTING your Society in ANY way...IF so, PLEASE feel free to order them Home...LOL.... It's not for Quality of Life, Honey!!! It's about MONEY. Canada always finishes in the Top Countries to live in. Your thinkin' of your southern Neighbours, I suggest.

160. As a Canadian my understanding of this situation is that all these people that were denied entry had criminal records. As for Canadians supposedly denying black rappers only, Martha Stewart was also denied entry and she's just about as opposite of a black rapper as you can get. It's not about race or your job, it's about whether or not your a criminal.

161. Why is the suit being filed in the U.S. if the complaint is against the Canadian governments border policy?

Posted at 11:16AM on Aug 23rd 2007 by Turbo Bunee

162. 18. Canada is a police state. People don't really have freedom of speech there. Canadians won't tell you that because they are very reserved people and they like to keep a good image and keep their face.

Most Americans just assume that Canada is a more free country than America because they have more open policy to gay rights. In fact, it's not true. Maybe one or two things they got more open policy than the States. Everything else is strictly regulated and controlled by government. You don't really have any forum to speak out. They shot you down. The way they don't allow you freedom of speech is not to physically threaten you like some communist country, they just don't give you the platform, media is very controlled by government. You will never get the spotlight to have your say.

Are you seriously kidding me???? Canada is NOT a police state. How ridiculous! The CBC is a government supported station, but there are hundreds of tv, radio stations, newspapers, magazines, etc, etc that are owned by individuals and/or corporations. Canadians are completely free to express themselves. We are a kinder, gentler nation that, for the most part, don't get off on violence against people. We are concerned with the direction our younger generation seems to be heading and, if these people are stopped at the border, there is a legal reason. There is a huge difference between being jailed for "breaching probation" and being jailed for "violent crimes against persons".

163. 32. That's just as bad as requiring a passport to fly into their country--Why?, they may as well be part of the U.S! (it hasn't been finalized yet, but it's close)

Posted at 1:54PM on Aug 22nd 2007 by LuvTMZ

I'm pretty sure the Americans started the whole passport thing. Canadians and Americans have been crossing each others borders for generations without the need for them. What gives? Have you heard "if it ain't broke, don't fix it?"

164. I think the topic here has gone way off base. I'm Canadian and I've never heard that Toronto or Vancouver or anywhere else is blaming gangster rap for increased violence.
Some people have been saying that we don't have free speech, that is simply NOT true. We DO have the right to free speech, we have the right to protest, anyone that says otherwise is very misinformed. Our country may not play as much gangster rap on our tv and radio as the US does, but we play some. It's simply supply and demand. It's just not the popular thing here. I'm sure there are a lot of people who listen to it, I just think here are a lot more that listen to other types of music. And no NOT all Canadians listen to country music. I listen to everything from rap (yes, even gangster rap) to classical to pop to some country. I'm not a gun toting gang member and neither is anybody else I know. I listen to it for fun, not to give me my values, BUT I am an adult, and there should be supervision on a lot of music with children, some MUSIC is not appropriate for young kids (all genres).
I personally don't have anything against Americans, my personal interactions with Americans have been perfectly fine. We're not a racist country (I'm sure there are a few, just like any other country BUT they certainly are not the majority). We value our way of life and our commitment to equality, ex. gay marriage is legal in our country. Our country is just about as liberal as you can get, in fact our Conservative party here is probably on par with American Democratic party. I've never felt that I could not express myself freely in this country.
This lawsuit claims that we wouldn't let him in this country because he is a black rapper, that simply isn't true. He was denied entry because he had a criminal record. As the previous comment said, Martha Stewart was also denied entry, because she had a criminal record. We have laws and we follow them. We were not attacking this man personally, we have nothing against him. It's simply that he had a record and our laws say "Sorry Buddy, but you can't come here". There is nothing racist about this. By the way America has the same laws! My friend cannot enter the USA because he has a record. We are not saying that US is racist or anything else like that. We understand you have a law to protect your citizens from criminals, just like we do.
So let's stop attacking each other personally, Canadians aren't stupid, neither are Americans. This is about one man who has a frivolous lawsuit.

165. 73. "Canadians have many more freedoms then Americans. Gay marriage is simply one of many. "

That's a LIE. Gay marriage is the only thing you got more freedom than Americans. It almost feels that Canada is using gay marriage to outdo America and pretend that they have more freedom.

In Canada, the largest supermarket chain is government(province) owned. There is NOT EVEN FREE ECONOMY there. What freedom? Government also owns alcohol. You can't out sell government's price. Hard liquor is double the price (some triple) than the price in America. Beer is 1/3 more than you buy in the States. Government OWNS YOUR ASS in Canada. What freedom?

Posted at 3:25PM on Aug 22nd 2007 by one

Where do you get your information? I don't know of a government owned supermarket. We have Safeway, IGA, Superstore, Save on Foods, and a multitude of smaller stores, all privately owned and run. Liquor is sold in independant liquor stores. Were government owned/run at one time, but are now privately owned and operated. Remember, our border, however porous it may be, is YOUR border too.
